This blog is personal collection of my freehand architecture sketches. This blog was started with an intent to encourage professionals and specially students with sketching phobia.

Hello friends I am posting after a long time on this blog. I was keeping busy for few weeks. Other day I was checking some examples of high rise structures and thought what all could be done to make a long pipe look interesting. I though Why not alter balconies which look flat from downside. Therefore I have tried little alterations on two faces to make it look interesting. This sketch took me only 4 minutes and this is the power of sketching !!

Hello friends this is sketch of blue mosque in Istanbul. When I saw its image on net I liked its composition a lot and decided to sketch it swiftly... Though there are little mistakes with perspective lines but this is what makes sketches different from a technical drawing. Those small people in foreground defines the grand scale of sketch...!

The above perspectives are examples of how one can visualise spaces while designing spaces in architectural design. All spaces above are double height spaces with some architectural elements contained within it. One point perspective technique is used to represent spaces above. All designers can sketch these spaces quickly if basic perspective techniques are known. These spaces are also quick tools to visualise characters of spaces.

Within mountains
This was a random sketch which I did for visualising a deep entrance to a building within mountain setting, I had drawn two inverted L members to highlight this entrance. Again I used watercolour pencils and black ink. And at the end I gave it a light wash for obtaining watercolour effect. And ya a little basic shadows make visualisations more realistic, like I have done with help of black ink in the above picture.

random scribble
Hello friends this is a sketch which I did after a newspaper visual grabbed my attention....I just got hold of a ball pen and started sketching and after 10 minutes uploaded this sketch. you can see because of both tower on left and the structure on right the middle facade gets importance as it is framed by the structures on both sides. This can be a design strategy of Architect ....but ya this building was named Venice city in some mall...but while sketching I felt I was drawing some building of Jaipur...are there similarities ???

Transition passage
This is a random sketch which I did just to play with my Copic markers on tracing paper. The sketch shows a pathway, and its depth is highlighted due to vanishing endpoint. The structural members covering the path also gives a sense of partially covered area which would act as a perfect transition from one area to another. And ya it was fun to put those red dots on the bush and watch ink bleeding....

Sketching a Castle
This sketch contains two drawings...above is an attempt to sketch an origami paper form from perspective techniques. Below is a 5 minute sketch of a Scotland castle printed in newspaper. I first sketched basic fame and then added details subsequently. The sketch is not perfect but it imparts character of this castle along with correct proportions. This is what is required of architects to impart words to his/her imagination.

Chinese Ground
Hi Guys this sketch was made by me when I first visited to schenzen china. The place is a modern urban sprawl with tall high rise buildings. The above sketch was made after vising a local market complex which was housed in a high rise building. I improvised those fins at the bottom myself to give building a distinct character. Also it will be interesting to note that I have sketched it on a hotel room diary page....it somehow give more excitement to sketch on such things rather than on a plain simple drawing sheet....try a napkin sometime....and I will post my napkin sketches too..!

Hello Friends....
Hello Friends after a long time after graduating from architecture college I finally decided to write this blog. Well lets first introduce myself, I am Ar.Gaurav Goel and I have graduated from Amity School of Architecture and Planning.
From childhood I was sketching a lot and got into portraits and other human figures, but after 5 years in architecture college I was also trained in expressing spaces into form of sketches.Though I am not very good in sketching artistically, but as an architect can express spaces with basic perspective and proportioning systems.
Daily architects and students make numerous sketches, which afterwards are either lying in drawers or sometimes throne away. But in reality these are those important piece of works which give direction to reach actual design. Thats why I decided to put all my rough and conceptual sketches on this blog.
Hope that this blog will inspire or help students and other professionals in design field. And I would also like your comments and suggestions to inspire myself and post more on this blog !
